AOL Broadband marks 10th Anniversary by pledging €10,000 to local charity Back to Media Releases
13th October 2008. AOL Broadband today launched its campaign to mark the 10th anniversary of its business centre in Waterford, by offering one lucky Waterford-based charity the chance to receive €10,000 in funding. Employees of AOL Broadband will embark on a series of fundraising events to raise €5,000 over the coming months and the company will make a further contribution of €5,000 to be donated to a deserving charity. Nominations are invited from the general public - including community and voluntary organisations, charities, welfare groups, arts and sports bodies, foundations or any cause that makes a significant impact in the local community. Closing date for nominations is 5pm Monday October 27th 2008. The winner will be announced in November.
“We strongly encourage the public to get involved by nominating their chosen charity as we want to ensure that all our local charities are represented before we select an overall winner. Charities provide essential services for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, and it is essential that they have the resources they need to do this vital work effectively. The current economic crisis is beginning to have a negative impact on charities that rely almost entirely on voluntary donations from the public to support their work and we are committed to playing our part to alleviate some of this pressure. AOL Broadband’s mission reaches far beyond our commitment to our customers and staff – it extends to making an impact on the social needs of the community here in Waterford”, said Elaine Connolly, Communications Manager.
Connolly added “This campaign also quite rightly highlights the extraordinary contribution of our staff to improving the lives of our local community. The driving force behind AOL Broadband’s profitable growth over the last ten years has been our people, whose skills, professionalism and dedication are essential to our continuing success.”
