RECYLCING EFFORT ADDS UP TO 6 DOUBLE DECKER BUSES Back to Media Releases
To coincide with National Recycling Week (6th – 10th October) AOL Broadband has today announced that it has recycled more than 55 tonnes of waste at its business centre in Waterford last year – the equivalent in weight of over 6 double decker buses.
AOL Broadband, which is celebrating 10 years in Waterford this year, implemented a workplace recycling scheme to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill. Among the items discarded and subsequently recycled were 108 bales of cardboard and 84 bags of organic food waste. Other items recycled included aluminium cans, plastic bottles, office papers, printer cartridges and plastic containers.
Commenting on the announcement, Elaine Connolly, Communications Manager at AOL Broadband in Waterford said, "We have made significant progress in reducing the amount of waste generated on site by putting simple and convenient measures in place to collect and recycle our rubbish. By the end of 2007 we succeeded in collecting an average of 5.5kg of recyclables per day from each employee which would otherwise have been sent directly to landfill. Much of the success of the whole operation is down to the tremendous response from our employees who have taken on board the need to separate waste into the different bins located in the building. Hopefully our employees and our customers will all feel proud of our ongoing efforts to become a greener place to work.”
