AOL Broadband Announces €10,000 Funding for Homeless Charity Back to Media Releases

8th Decembe 2008: AOL Broadband has today announced that it is awarding €10,000 funding to the South East Simon Community in a bid to help deliver vital services to children affected by homelessness this winter. The South East Simon Community was selected following a public nomination process which enabled employees and the public to cast their vote and choose a deserving charity to benefit from the generous donation. Employees of AOL Broadband will embark on a series of fundraising activities to raise €5,000 over the coming weeks and the company will make a further contribution of €5,000 to be donated to this worthwhile charity.

Commenting on the announcement Elaine Connolly of AOL Broadband said, "By teaming up with the South East Simon Community we hope to make a positive difference in the lives of children who are homeless. The impact of homelessness on children can have far-reaching negative effects on their lives unless early intervention is made. AOL Broadband is therefore glad to announce that our contribution will help local volunteers to deliver vital services targeted specifically at tackling child and youth homelessness.”

Chris Anderson, Regional Development Officer for the South East Simon Community said ‘We are deeply grateful for these funds and also for the opportunity to highlight our services to the public.  This donation will go directly to the services for children who affected by homelessness. Our whole organisation is uplifted with this great news and our ability, because of AOL Broadband’s intervention, to dedicate resources to address the needs of the children we meet through our work. We look forward to a busy and productive year with the AOL Broadband team in Waterford.’ Chris went on to say ‘We anticipate that 2009 will be a busier year than ever for us, having provided services for the first time in 5 years to families who are homeless because of repossession.’

This latest funding partnership is part of AOL Broadband’s ongoing commitment to the community in Waterford. Last month AOL Broadband sponsored 10 WIT students with bursaries of €2,000 to help finance third-level education.

Elaine Connolly added “AOL Broadband is committed to supporting the social needs of the community of Waterford and the South East Simon Community protects and advocates for the most vulnerable in our community. We hope that our contribution will strengthen
